Dinner at Tatemó

The smiling couple
Tatemó is located in a random strip mall off the northwest corner of 610 loop, unmarked in suite F. Our server explained that they’ll never get a liquor license because they share a wall in the strip mall with a church.
The first course — a tostada
Followed by a sope
Quesadilla filled with cheese and huitlacoche (fungus that grows on corn that looks and tastes kind of like a mushroom) topped with shaved truffle.
Taco sushi style (my words, not theirs)– eggplant with a yuzu kosho and sushi rice
Enmolada — mole negro, fried sweet potato
Final savory course– an enchilada with an oyster mushroom cooked on a Japanese grill
Pineapple and mango sorbet atop a ring of mascarpone, crunchy pistachio, chamoy, olive oil and salt.
The menu called it a buñuelo but, bruh, it’s a pretzel! with chocolate and macadamia and a mango pate cube
Chef Emmanuel Chavez caught me taking a photograph of Tatemó’s tiny kitchen and sent his greetings.
